A pregnancy calls for some big alterations - and not just to an expectant mom's waistband. There are preparations to be made, doctors' appointments to be kept, lifestyle and health changes to get used to
the list will likely grow faster than that baby belly will!
To get a jump on the planning, check out all of the different ways you can prepare your body, your mind, and your life for all those changes before you actually get pregnant.
Some of the things at the top of your list should be eating well, getting a flu shot, and taking a vitamin supplement. Find out more ways of getting enough folic acid, a form of vitamin B, from your diet or from supplements. Folic acid is especially important prior to and during pregnancy,
as it helps prevent birth defects.
You may also need to make some lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking and drinking, as these can cause birth defects and negatively impact birth weight. It is important to quit before you get pregnant.
If you're thinking of getting pregnant, you should plan a pre-pregnancy doctor's appointment. This will allow you to discuss your concerns and ask your questions and for the doctor to perform some screening tests and examinations. Among other things, you may expect to give your complete medical history and take some blood tests. Happy planning!
